Hope you are all keeping safe and healthy in this Covid19 period of the lockdown. This idea came to me due to the lockdown and developing it sort of extended beyond the lockdown period.
The idea is to install CCTV cameras in various places showing streets, parks and all public locations. These cameras would basically be streaming to a server. People can then watch from there.
I am not too sure of the legal side of this idea but I am sure you can take a video or picture in a public place. I am almost sure one has the right to do this.
So barring that, the idea is to have Cameras streaming these places of interest to people who are interested in knowing what the camera is seeing. I went online and found a few countries have this service too. I saw empty streets, parks and stations signifying the lockdown in those cities. Some people would like to see the empty views of the streets in Nigeria especially Lagos and Abuja.
Also, people would just like to see what is going on and guage a sense of events happening on all streets around the country (even your parents or siblings street in another city or location!).
So basically the idea is to offer the following services
1. Ability to view traffic in installed locations (free or at a cost)
2. Ability to buy/procure a recorded event (e.g a persons car was snatched and the camera caught it)
3. Ability to show adverts on this network as viewers view free cameras
4. Ability to raise public awareness on various issues through the footages and pictures e.g. recurrent events or public dangers
5. Ability to outsource/join a camera network (the CCTV in your office can be pointed to the street and generate income). This can be of service to police or other security outfits.
6. Ability to help police and other agencies in emergency response by providing emergency access to feeds of pictures or videos in emergency situations
7. Creation of a community CCTV network to enable businesses and private persons join in the security of the community.
These are just some of the ideas I have regarding public CCTV.
